One of the most important aspects of a well designed space is lighting.  Lighting includes both artificial provided by a lamp or a fixture or natural illumination such as daylight.

When designing a space I always take into consideration what direction the windows and openings of the building face, North, South, East or West.   This information is crucial in making good use of natural daylight Research has shown people are happier and more productive when working in areas where natural light is abundant.  Also taking advantage of the exposure of a building can help in energy use, color selection and finishes.  For example a room that faces south is always bright and warmer than rooms that face north  which usually get much less sun especially during the winter months.
